WHO

We are a group of volunteers belonging to SettieG’s operational team. We start prepping for the homeless and children from the community on Saturdays and serve our meals on Sundays. The team is very dedicated and we prioritize the Kitchen responsibilities as appose to our own duties for our own homes.

WHAT

Since the main objective is to provide a hot sustainable meal to the community… we are fortunate to have the whole community involved. We received private donations from different people. Often time’s schools and private business support the kitchen, but it is not always enough. Volunteers aren’t always able to contribute financially or with food items, but they do keep us in their prayers and always provide a word of encouragement.

WHY

We feed the less fortunate. We realized that the Covid-19 pandemic left many parents unemployed. Besides standard poverty that was in existence, covid trippled the aftermath of poverty. We believe that a proper meal at least once a week, will sustain the child for a couple of days but we also acknowledge that one meal a week is not a month, but it is a start.

In January 2021 we started of with 15 children only, we now feed a total of +- 100 kids and

35 adults.

The feeding scheme also started providing soup to the informal settlement called Khayelitsha. We have a food stand that operates between 11 – 12 am on a sunday morning, followed by a cooked meal from 12 till 1pm from 41 Anemoon ave Clanwilliam.

Usually when we run out of soup In khayelitsha, we divert our kids to Anemoon Avenue for lunch.

Absolute remarkable work that is being done by the remarkable Charlene Mouton and her sister Nicolette . A Soup Kitchen in our community is a necessity, therefore I salute Charlene for identifying the need and creating Settie G’s Kitchen to serve the community. May this project grow and become so sustainable that it inspires others to get involved and donate because this is indeed a worthy cause.

Hierdie organisasie is enig in sy soort en die enigste een in ons dorp. Settie G se kombuis sit soveel glimlaggies op die kinders se gesigte! This soup kitchen is a life changer for this town. The wonders these people do with the tiniest bit they receive is remarkable! . Our town will never be able to just show how much we appreciate this soup kitchen . This soup kitchen is really one of a kind. So much love and hard work goes into this place.
