This National Women’s Day 2024, two South African women; join hands to lead their respective non-profit organisations into an inspiring representation of the SDG17 Goal; Partnerships. For what purpose? The plastic crisis we face as a humanity, the devastating effects on our environment, and the cruel consequences for our sentient beings needs immediate action.
There’s a proverb that says, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.’ This embodies the partnership between the Living and Learning Laboratories and the ChangeMakers Hub. The planetary challenges we face today took years to develop, and it will take all of us working together to overcome them. As a wise woman once said, ‘There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.’ Let’s all put our best foot forward in saving and protecting our planet.
ChangeMakersHub (CMH) is a Public Benefits Organisation and Non-Profit company whose focus is on delivering a real and measurable impact towards accelerating progress of the sustainable developmental goals with their EcoChangeMakers Programme, mobilizing climate action for people and planet.
Michelle Korevaar, Founding Director of CMH, recently awarded a prestigious ‘South Africa’s Woman Leaders’ title at this year’s South African Leadership Awards; says “Women standing together to make real and relevant impact in the nonprofit landscape has never been more important. Establishing this Impact partnership with Neliswa Nyandeni and her team at L3 will become a best practice model that I hope will inspire many to follow”.
Neliswa Nyandeni SA Lever Leader at the LEAP Institute, says “Our approach through the Living and Learning Laboratories advocates for a holistic approach that embraces experiential learning and real-world applications, which makes the EcoChangemakers Programme a perfect fit for our schools”.
LEAP Institute a non-profit organization that provides leadership development programs and coaching for youth and educators, to empower young leaders to create positive change in their communities. The Living and Learning Laboratories (L3 Labs) is a beacon of hope in a landscape where access to quality education remains a challenge L3 defies these odds, championing a philosophy that learning knows no boundaries.
The Living and Learning laboratories established within the 13 LEAP schools will implement the EcoChangeMakers programme and together these nonprofit originations reach beyond, ensuring the inclusivity of all children from all backgrounds in learning hands on ways to take climate action that is crucially important, but easy to do with commitment and persistence.
August 2024 launches the Youth EcoChangeMakers Awards, will recognize and reward youth who choose to participate and embark on this journey of learning climate literacy and how to follow through with climate action. Each step of the programme gives practical guidelines making climate action understood, bridging the missing links in the circular economy, while mobilsing youth to remove, repurpose, and rescue people and planet in real and relevant ways from the plastic pollution crisis.
As women we know how critical the role of empowering youth plays in advancing necessary climate action attention on nurturing and supporting the next generation of young leaders. This women’s day, these two women led non-profit organisations have chosen to harness the power of empowering youth to drive climate action and create a sustainable future for all. By engaging young people, equally across genders, in environmental advocacy, education, and initiatives that repurpose harmful plastic waste into building blocks that become valuable public service benches and statement art.
“We not only equip them with the tools to address pressing environmental challenges but also ensure gender equality in the across the field of climate activism”, says Nyandeni. Korevaar adds “the EcoChangeMakers programme ensures that the voice of youth are heard, their ideas are valued, and their leadership is recognized in shaping a greener, more resilient planet for generations to come.”
We must debunk the broad meaning of “Sustainability. It is a complex issue that needs us all, to understand in order to take relevant climate action and our world needs it right now! And we need to do it together, to be stronger, to get the mass movement needed to turn the tide. When we come together, we can make a profound difference.
